Expansion in the trucking industry is making formal driver training essential for employment. Commercial Truck Driving is a certificate program consisting of 70 hours of classroom and 240 hours of hands-on instruction. Emphasis is placed on professional driving techniques, local and over the road travel, safety and the rules and regulations of the Department of Transportation. Students completing this program are prepared for all endorsements of the Georgia Commercial Driver's License. Applicants for the program must be a U.S. citizen, be 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license. In addition, the applicant must have a motor vehicle report (MVR) with a satisfactory driving record and have proof of a DOT physical examination prior to class. To earn a Certificate in this field of study, students must pass the appropriate testing program and complete at least 15-quarter hours in the major area of study.
