Satisfactory Academic Progress
To maintain financial aid eligibility, students must earn a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of "C" or better and satisfactorily complete at least 67% of courses attempted each quarter. Course grades of "W", "WF", "WP", "F", and "U" are considered unsuccessful attempts.
Students who fail to maintain a cummulative GPA 2.0 and/or fail to complete 67% of their attempted coursework will receive an academic/financial aid warning. Students who are on academic/financial aid warning and fail to attain a cumulative GPA 2.0 and/or complete 67% of their attempted coursework are placed on academic/financial aid probation. Students who are on academic/financial aid probation and fail to attain a cuimulative GPA 2.0 and/or complete 67% of their attempted coursework are placed on academic financial aid suspension.
Students are considered to be making satisfactory academic progress if they do not exceed 1.5 times the normal length of a program of study. This includes all credit hours attempted whether they are completed or passed. For example, if a program of study is 80 credit hours then the maximum timeframe to complete the program and receive financial aid is 120 credit hours. The maximum timeframe will vary depending upon the length of the program of study. When computing Satisfactory Academic Progress, courses with grades of "U", "S", "W", "WP", "I", repeated courses, and learning support courses are included in the total hours attempted and applied towards the maximum timeframe. Learning support classes are included in the GPA calculation for financial aid purposes. Academic progress determinations are made quarterly after grades have been issued.
A transfer student is considered on satisfactory academic progress during the first quarter of enrollment at the institution. After the first quarter, the student will be responsible for meeting all satisfactory academic progress requirements.
Students have the right to appeal if there were extenuating circumstances that prevented them from meeting the SAP requirements. All appeals must be submitted in writing, and specifically address the extenuating circumstances. The written appeal must be filed in the Student Affairs Center.
